Abstract
This article analyses the options Miskitu women from Krukira have for negotiating the contradictions between two systems of justice – state justice and communitarian justice – in their pursuit of a life free of violence. While these two systems operate under different conceptions of justice and gender‐based violence, the communitarian system represents the most accessible option women can turn to for the reparation of damages. With a reflexive approach to the dynamics of the communitarian space, this article employs an intercultural perspective to contribute to the design of a regional model of justice that meets Miskitu women's demands.
