Abstract

["The World Economy, EarlyView. ", "\nABSTRACT\nThis paper uses datasets on Chinese public firms to examine the impact of clan culture on firm export activities in China. We find that a one standard deviation increase in our clan culture measure leads to a 10.27% increase in the firm export intensity on average. Mechanism analysis shows that the role of clan culture in promoting export activities is due to the rapid information sharing among clan members. Moreover, these effects are more pronounced in regions predominantly inhabited by Han Chinese and those with low levels of marketization.\n"]
