Abstract
["Review of Development Economics, EarlyView. ", "\nABSTRACT\nThis study investigates the relationship between innovation and resistance for Brazilian regions. To this end, this work utilizes the economic resistance index alongside data on patent and trademark filings, formal employment, and regional indicators of related and unrelated variety, as well as other structural regional characteristics. Spatial econometrics techniques are used to account for heterogeneity and spatial dependence through the spatial Durbin panel model (SDM) in particular. The findings indicate a positive and significant association between innovation—proxied by trademark statistics—and regional resistance. In contrast, the effect of patent activity on resistance appears to be non‐significant.\n"]
